Gym hair how-to: faux fishtail

Better than your average ponytail, this upgraded look only takes two minutes of your time.

If you're a gym-goer with long hair you probably rely on the ponytail as your go-to style during a workout. But how many times are you readjusting the 'do? The simple faux fishtail braid solves that issue. According to Justine Marjan, stylist and editorial director for Mane Addicts, this chic look keeps hair secure. "And you won't have to worry about fly-aways," she says. Marjan says this fun take on the regular braid is good for yoga, Pilates, and barre classes—but it could really go with any workout. Watch the how-to video and read on for Marjan's step-by-step instructions for the faux fishtail braid.

Step 1 Gather hair into a low ponytail and secure with a hair elastic.

Step 2 Create a very loose regular three-strand braid only partially down the hair, then secure with another hair elastic.

Step 3 Tug on either side of the braid to loosen it up.

Step 4 Split hair down the middle and loop the pony through.

Step 5 Tug on the ponytail so it is pulled tightly through; then use your fingers to pinch and pull on the outer edges of the braid to loosen it.
