In honor of Earth Month, Furthermore asked athletes to compose love letters to the landscape where they train, be that the ocean, the desert, or the river.
In March 2012, ultrarunner Mina Guli launched the non-profit Thirst to raise awareness about the global water crisis. Since then, she’s logged countless miles for the cause, even completing 40 marathons in seven deserts on all seven continents—in just seven weeks. Most recently, she planned to run 100 marathons in 100 days. Though injury forced her to break from the pursuit after 62, others have continued her #runningdry movement, finishing the 100th 26.2-mile journey in New York City’s Central Park this February. Here, her love letter to the desert.
