The popularity of turmeric and starting the day with a glass of lemon water has (at least partially) to do with Ayurveda. The historic Indian system has been around since5,000 BCE, and it’s not going anywhere—especially because one of the main tenets is that you can’t treat your body without considering your mind, which may seem obvious in an age of meditation apps, but was a pretty radical idea until fairly recently. "Ayurveda looks at whole systems of the body as a single holistic functioning unit," explains Bhaswati Bhattacharya, MPH, a clinical assistant professor of medicine at Weill Cornell Medical College in New York City who is currently completing a Ph.D. in Ayurveda studies.
