Put the finishing touches on your workout with these proven pro body treatments.
From killing it on the treadmill to Vinyasa-ing up a storm, a hybrid of cardio and strength training is sure to sculpt and tone. But what if there was a way to have similar gravity defying and slimming effects while also putting your body and mind into total bliss? You work hard for results; consider these four treatments the cherry on top.
THE DETOXERCaudalie Crushed Cabernet Body Scrub, $145 (for 35 minutes)
You can drink gallons of green juice but nothing is going to give skin a glow like some old school exfoliation. This unique and all natural combination of grape seeds, brown sugar, grape seed oil, honey, and botanical body oil is like the HIIT of skincare. And it doesn't take long to see major results. “The sugar exfoliates and hydrates skin, while the grape seeds remove dead skin cells and improve micro circulation, leaving the surface of the skin smoother,” explains Regine Berthelot, treatment manager at The Caudalie Vinotherapie Spa in New York City. “The honey is a humectant that instantly soothes and heals while grape seed oil is packed with antioxidants that protect and hydrate.” After you’re completely buff, the luxe body oil laced with essential oils is massaged into skin using upward movements toward the heart to lessen water retention and toxins—and any trouble zones are targeted with smaller circular motions to help them look lifted, soft and toned. Can’t get to the spa? DIY at home with the Caudalie Crushed Cabernet Scrub, $38.
THE CELLULITE ERASER
Equinox Spa Sunless Tanning Body Bronzer, $70 (for members)
The harmful effects of tanning are well known, yet the insta-slimming effect of being bronzed is undeniable. Having a pro do the honors can eliminate any chance of streaks while adding extra shading that acts as subtle optical illusion. At the Equinox Spa in Boston, a technician airbrushes a super fine mist of color laced with aloe vera to not only impart a natural tan but keep skin hydrated as well. “Using the targeted spray gun, we can customize the tone, depth and saturation for specific body parts using vertical strokes to give the illusion of looking slimmer,” says Aurora Peritz, regional spa manager at Equinox Spa in Boston and Washington D.C. “As well, we can shade around certain areas like the abs to show the natural form of the muscle at its peak.” At home, Peritz suggests reaching for Brownberry Clear Sunless Tanning Spray, $45, a light spray that’s easy to apply solo and has a natural formula and hue and was developed by tanning expert Meredith Fish (sold at Equinox spas as well as brownberry.com).
THE SMOOTH OPERATOR
Colbert MD Triad Body Facial, approximately $850
While religious squats and lunges will help shape how your rear looks in those jeans, and endless triceps dips may sculpt tank-worthy muscles, those moves won't soften or lift the skin itself. And that’s a hot body game changer. David Colbert, MD, a dermatologist with a long list of celebrity clientele, transformed his signature Triad Facial into a body version, guaranteed to make skin as soft—and firm—as a baby’s bottom. First head-to-toe microdermabrasion removes dead cells lingering on the skin’s surface, then a light treatment which consists of red bulbs (and no pain) helps stimulate the production of new collagen (the springy foundation of skin that will keep it perky from the inside out) followed by a 20 minute 20 percent glycolic acid peel to gently show off fresh, dewy skin. The finale: a collagen enhancing serum topped with an ultra hydrating body cream.
THE HEAVY LIFTER
Tracie Martyn Resculpting Body Treatment, starts at $155
Just as you'll vow to increase your workouts before a getaway or event, add this unique treatment (a go-to for models and celebrities) onto your to-do list to take your hard work up a notch. “Of course, everybody wants to have a smooth, tight, lifted and toned body, and all of our clients flock in before going somewhere warm for the holidays or as maintenance in synergy with their exercise routine and a fitness promoting diet,” explains Marius Morariu, co-founder and director of research and development at Tracie Martyn in NYC. "Especially effective on buttocks, thighs, waist and hips, this service is an ideal alternative to more aggressive anti-cellulite protocols, as it is contours by lifting, strengthening and firming." How? It emits a mild current, which gently stimulates and energizes the skin. Next, Martyn’s ultra-pure Resculpting Body Serum, $98, and Face and Body Resculpting Cream, $155, are applied all over, which contain potent botanicals such as organic green tea extract as well as carnitine, an amino acid that's crucial for healthy skin. “And the more water retention and lack of elasticity, cellulite and stretch marks that you have, the more you can expect a result in improving the appearance,” says Morariu. For optimal results, three treatments are recommended in the first month—with a monthly maintenance appointment there on out.
